Favorite Scripture Passages and Thoughts on Life, from Dave Kent, Owner of the Hitting Zone, President of the Hitting Zone Baseball Bible

Jesus loves all the little children, all the children of the world. Red, Yellow, Black and White, they are all precious in His sight – Jesus loves all the children of the world.

The Only Race in Baseball should be to First Base!

Luke 6:47 “Everyone who comes to me and listens to my words and puts them into practice – I will show you what he is like: He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep, and laid the foundation on bedrock. When a flood came, the river burst against that house but could not shake it, because it had been well built. But the person who hears and does not put my words into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When the river burst against that house, it collapsed immediately, and was utterly destroyed!”

Baseball Tip: Your foundation needs to be firm in the sense that it will hold up to the challenges of the game. It is firm, not rigid or hard, but something that will allow you to perform effectively.

Matthew 11:28-30 Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke on you and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and my load is not hard to carry.”

Baseball Tip: Slow feet – quick hands and hips. Keep your swing smooth and slow. Get in Sync with God’s rhythm and take time to get in touch with the Master’s hands on your life.

Philippians 4:8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of respect, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if something is excellent or praiseworthy, think about these things.

Baseball Tip: Focusing on positive thoughts that will overcome negativity. Concentrate on that which is true and honorable.

Baseball Tip: The ultimate aim of baseball and life lies not in the victory or defeat, but in shaping the character of those on the journey. Visualizing that every pitch is going to be a perfect pitch to swing at –Trust your swing and let it go. Visualizing the ball is important in baseball and life. Always say yes, yes, yes – no only at the last minute if it’s not a good pitch to hit and say yes to Jesus.

Romans 8:6 For the outlook of the flesh is death, but the outlook of the Spirit is life and peace,

Baseball Tip: Play mentally controlled. Baseball Tip: Don’t overthink!

Ted Williams once said jokingly – “Smart guys can’t hit cause they think too much. Over analysis will make for paralysis.” See the ball – hit the ball – just relax and let your swing flow. Similarly in our walk with Christ, don’t overanalyze. We should be taking consistent action based on sound biblical principles.

The great Willie Mays was quoted as saying: “Baseball is a simple game. You throw it and I hit it. You hit it and I catch it.”

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know what I have planned for you,’ says the Lord, ‘I have plans to prosper you, not to harm you. I have plans to give you a future filled with hope.

Baseball Tip: Baseball is such a mental game. You have to know where to throw it, when to throw it, why to throw it, and “IF” to throw it. Sometimes NO throw is the best play. You must know what to do with the ball before the pitch. If it’s hit hard, slow, in the air or on the ground, to your right or left, if it takes you in or back, what’s the score, what inning, etc. We call this “pre-pitch rehersal”

Romans 12: 1-2 Therefore I exhort you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a sacrifice – alive, holy, and pleasing to God – which is your reasonable service. Deuteronomy 5:32-33 Be careful, therefore, to do exactly what the Lord your God has commanded you; do not turn right or left! Walk just as he has commanded you so that you may live, that it may go well with you, and that you may live long in the land you are going to possess.

Baseball Tip: When pitching, our balance and direction to the plate is vital. If we stride to the left…we open our foot, hips, and shoulder. The result is loss in velocity, control and movement…not to mention the chance for injury is greatly increased! If we stride to the far right…we have to try and throw across our body making it very difficult to get the ball to the left half of the plate, putting undue pressure on our knees, hips and shoulders. Keep your stride in as straight a line as possible ensuring greater consistency with all your pitches, keeping healthy longer, and making sure you are getting all you can out of your body.
